Pritam, the composer of this song, once shared in an interview that he had sleepless nights when he learnt that Kajol had been paired opposite to Shah Rukh Khan in the film. He believed that it was very challenging to create music that could recreate the magic of this iconic Bollywood duo. Eventually, he composed music that did justice to SRK-Kajol's on-screen chemistry. One would not expect an out-and-out romantic song in a Rohit-Shetty film; nonetheless, the composition and music video exceeded everyone’s expectations, with Arijit Singh raising the bar too high with his soulful singing.
If you have seen the video of ‘Gerua,’, you would know how mesmerising and astonishing the visuals are. The music video has lush green mountain tops, waterfalls, a rainbow, and a wrecked plane at an isolated place. However, an unfortunate event was about to happen during the shoot. Kajol once recounted that she saved SRK’s life during the shooting of the song ‘Gerua.’ Kajol shared that she and Shah Rukh were rehearsing their steps on a big rock at the shooting location, and all of a sudden, Shah Rukh lost balance and was about to fall off the cliff. Kajol instantaneously held his hand and saved him from meeting a fatal accident. The shooting for this song wasn’t easy at all.
Upon its release, the song received a highly positive reception from audiences and critics. People called the song ‘Love at first listen’ and it became a viral sensation amongst love song fanatics. The song trended in 62 countries, and in June 2016, it became the first Hindi film song to reach 100 million views on YouTube. The song garnered two awards at the 2015 Mirchi Music Awards: Song of the Year and Music Composer of the Year for Pritam.
