About the Song

Congratulations and Celebrations is a song performed by Cliff Richard. It was written by Bill Martin and Phil Coulter. The song had a glorious run during its initial release years, climbing to the number-one spot in many countries worldwide.

Originally, the song was not called Congratulations And Celebrations; while writing the lyrics, Phil Coulter thought of naming the song "I Think I Love You," but the lyrics did not match up with the tone of the music he wanted as a composition. As a result, he consulted Bill Martin, the same individual who helped him write the lyrics for "Puppet On A String." he joined in with Phil Coulter and made a few changes to call it "Congratulations."

The song was selected as England's entry in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1968, which took place in London. Apart from the English version of the song, you can also find Cliff Richard performing the same song with almost the same lyrics in different languages like French, German, Spanish, and Italian. Furthermore, the languages in which Cliff Richard could not record this song also had this same song with compositions similar to those of other artists who were native to other languages. The song became so popular in the UK that on the final day of the Eurovision Song Contest, newspapers were writing headlines about who would win the second position as the first one was surely going to be taken by Congratulations and Celebrations.
