Postcards From Paraguay is a song recorded for the fourth solo studio album by British Singer and songwriter Mark Knopfler. The entire album was released on 28th September 2004 under the label of Mercury Records internationally, and in the United States, the same album was released by Warner Bros Records.
During the winter of 2003, Mark met with an accident when he was riding his motorbike on Grosvenor Road, Belgravia. In that accident, his collarbone and shoulder blade got broken, and he also suffered seven broken ribs. At that time, he was planning to kick start his Ragpicker’s Dream Tour, but due to the accident, he had to cancel the whole tour. After that, it took him 7 months to once again start playing his guitar as his physiotherapist kept on pushing him to delay his return to music. He then returned to the studio in 2004 and started working on his fourth album while also announcing a supporting tour for the album in the following year.
Knopfler is known for his storytelling in songwriting; the very first song that he wrote for the album was taken from the inspiration from Ray Kroc’s autobiography. Apart from this, most of the songs that you get to hear from this singer and songwriter come from real-life experiences and stories that he got the opportunity to be part of in one way or the other. This song is present at the 10th position in the album, and just like other songs present in the album, this one was also released in 5.1 surround sound on Super Audio CD (SACD) and DVD-Audio.
