About the Song

"18 and Life" is a song by Dave Sabo, a lead guitarist for a hard rock band called Skid Row. The lyrics of the song have a deeper meaning to it; the guitarist wrote it after he read the news of a young boy of just 18 years killed by accident as he was not aware of the gun being loaded with which both of them were playing. At last, the boy who shot his friend ended up in prison for life.

"18 and Life" was released as the second single from the band's debut album, Skid Row, in 1989. The band may seem to originate from Los Angeles but in truth it is from New Jersey. By the end of 1996, the band was able to sell more than 15 million copies of their music worldwide, establishing themselves as one of the promising acts of hard rock and Metal from the United States.

The genre of this song is more towards hard rock than Metal, but we all know how fine a line it is between these two. The total length of the song is only 3 minutes and 9 seconds, but even in such a short duration, its vocals and unforgettable writing have made it one of the band's iconic hit songs that are remembered even to this day.
