Cowboys From Hell is a song performed by American heavy metal band Pantera.
The song was released in 1990 under Atco Records, and this particular song
marked the start of the band's collaboration with Terry Date, who went on to
become the producer of many songs for this metal group. In addition to this, the
album was released with the same name, and it was also one of the first
albums by Pantera, where they fully disown their glam metal style, which was
too evident in their previous albums released before this one. The Cowboys
From Hell is also considered one of the very first albums that introduced the
world to groove metal.
Apart from being the main song of the album, Cowboys From Hell was also
present in the band's demo album, which was released in 1989. It was the first
single that Pantera ever released to the public. Phil Anselmo, the lead singer of
the band, said that during a house party in 1989, guitarist Dimebag Darrell
arrived pretty late to the party.

Right after he entered the house, he went to the singer and told him he had
found an amazing guitar riff to listen to. So the two of them went outside and
got in Abbott's car, where the guitarist played the song's intro to Anselmo. After
hearing the riff, Anselmo said, "This riff has the potential to become an anthem
to Abbott."
On another occasion, Pantera's drummer provided his insights on the song. He
said Cowboys is the song where everyone can come on their own and enjoy a
full-blown Pantera sound. In his interview, he said it was the first song they
actually wrote for the record. The lyrics showcased their struggle to escape
Texas and feel a bit out of place.
Bobby Koelble is the guitar teacher of the Cowboys From Hell chord lesson. He
is a heavy metal guitarist. He went to Berklee College to learn more about
music, and after completing his graduation, he got the honor of playing guitar
alongside Chuck Schuldiner and Gene Hoglan. He also developed a passion for
writing songs which led him to form Junkie Rush and the Absinthe Trio; during
this time, he also played as a freelance guitarist and provided his immaculate
guitar shredding skills to several compositions. For this particular song lesson,
he has divided the tutorial into 7 segments, discussing various parts of the
songs such as riffs, verse, chorus, bridge, and solo.
