About the Song

Hysteria is a song by American rock band Muse, released on December 1, 2003. It was the band's third single from their third studio album, Absolution, which was also released in the same year. Muse and Rich Costey produced the song.

In the U.K. Singles Chart, Hysteria gained 17th position, and in U.S. Billboard Modern Rock, it got up to 9th spot. In 2012, Hysteria was noted as the best song from the band and in 2011, the bass line of the song was considered the sixth-best bassline of all time.

Muse used to play this song quite a lot when they were touring in support of their new album Absolution, and it also appeared in live tour videos of the band. In addition to this, Hysteria was also featured as the video game for the famous game Fortnite during its Fortnite festival. The song's music video was quite interesting as well. Band members were inspired by the hotel trashing scene from Pink Floyd - The Wall, released in 1982. The music video is a short narrative in which Justin Theroux awakens inside a hotel room. Through the non-linear chronological elements of the music video, he finds himself both stalked and even meets the prostitute with whom he was obsessed. This encounter did not go pretty well as it ended pretty violently.
