About the Song

Kishor Kumar made himself immortal with Zindagi Ek Safar Hai Suhaana. Even to this day, after 60 years this particular song always comes when a group of friends and family are sitting together and reminiscing about the good old times.

This song was recorded for the movie Andaz, the composition of the song was done by Shankar Jaikishan, and the lyrics were written by Hasrat Jaipuri. When the song was released in 1971, it was a chart-topper and even got the 1st position in the annual list of Binaca Geetmala in the same year.

The music video of the song was part of the movie, where Rajesh Khanna, the lead actor of the movie, is in his jolly nature singing this song while riding a bike with Hema Malini. There was another version of the song in which Mohammad Rafi gave his voice as a playback singer. For that particular version, Shammi Kapoor also had some scenes in the music video alongside Hema Malini and Rajesh Khanna.

In terms of awards and nominations, Kishore was nominated for the Best Male Playback Singer for this song, and Hasrat Jaipuri won the Best Lyricist Award in the 19th Filmfare Awards, respectively. In 2002, Zindagi Ek Safar was featured in another Bollywood film, Mujhse Dosti Karoge! In that movie, Sonu Nigam lends his voice to once again revive this song in our memories.

Andaz was the last movie in which the duo Shankar-Jaikishan composed music together. Jaikishan died due to liver cirrhosis on 12th September 1971; at that time, he was just 42 years old. Zindagi Ek Safar was the last song that he recorded before his untimely demise. In addition to this, Andaz was the last hit movie in which Shammi Kapoor was present as a lead. All the success that the film was able to garner was credited to Rajesh Khanna, even though he only appeared in the movie for about 15 minutes in total. Shammi Kapoor’s performance is considered to be his best, even to this day, because it was a pretty uncharacteristic role in terms of his acting career.
