The song lyrics were written by Sir Paul McCartney and credited to the Lennon-McCartney partnership.

Furthermore, this was the first time The Beatles released their song on the Apple record label, and it is part of the "First Four" Apple's roster of artists, giving enough boost to the label during its launch. Hey, Jude gained lots of positive attention and remarks from all around the world. It was the top-selling single in the UK, US, Australia, and Canada. The song stayed on the top of US Billboard's Hot 100 for 9 weeks, tying with other songs holding the same record in 1968. This record was broken 9 years later.

The lyrics show the feeling of consolation towards Lennon's son, who finds out that his parents are separating, as his father is leaving his mother for another woman who is none other than Yoko Ono. The lyrics try to show the positive side of the sad situation while boosting Jude's morale by encouraging him to follow his passion and find the love of his life. After the song's four verses are complete, it shifts towards the coda featuring the infamous "Na-Na-Na-Na," which continues till the very end of the song.
