About the Song

Roop Tera Mastana is a song recorded for the movie Aradhana, which was released in 1969. It is an Indian Hindi musical film directed by Shakti Samanta, starring Sharmila Tagore and Rajesh Khanna. The movie Aradhana won the Filmfare Award for the best film in its 17th year. Tagore, the female lead, won her only Filmfare for Best Actress via this film.

Once the movie was released in Hindi, it got dubbed in Bengali. Apart from this, both Tamil and Telugu film industries released their own versions of the story. Aradhana was one of the 17 consecutive hits from Rajesh Khanna that went from 1969 to 1971. This movie was also a super hit in the Soviet Union. The main story is pretty similar to that of a movie called To Each His Own, which was released in 1946.

The story begins when an Indian Air Force pilot falls in love with a girl. After a few meetings, the two went on to get married in secret without any rituals, by only exchanging garlands. The only witness of their wedding was God. However, both of them planned to get married in front of their families and relatives as well. After the wedding day, the night fell in, and they got intimate. Arun, the Indian Air Force Pilot, tells the girl Vandana that he will soon come back and marry her in front of the whole world.

The entire soundtrack of the movie was composed by S.D Burman, and the lyrics were written by Anand Bakshi. At that time, Rahul Dev (R.D.) Burman was an assistant music director of the film. He was given the job of arrangement and the background score of the movie. In addition to this, R.D. Burman also improvised some tunes for singers and helped his father in the process of making various music compositions. Still, credit to all the tunes that we get to hear in the movie is credited to S.D Burman, who was the man who made sure that Kishore Kumar rose up to equal levels of fame with Rajesh Khanna.
